Rocko
Kia Ora Pukeko!
I hope you have been staying inside and safe today. Let me introduce you to Rocko. Rocko loves walks and big cuddles. Today he has followed me everywhere and even sits beside me while I am trying to do some work!
Comment below or send me a photo of how you have been spending your day.

Learning at home
Kia Ora,
Welcome to the place to go to find online lessons.
I will be posting online tasks in the upcoming weeks. These will reflect our usual daily structure to keep some consistency. These will be a mixture of pictures, instructions, voice recordings and at times videos.
After a few conversations with parents I wanted to address some worries or concerns I have heard.
What not to do:
Stress
Worry
Try and replicate the entire school day
What to do:
Be patient!
Check this blog for updates and ways to support your child
Read, read, read - Read to your child, let them read to you. Talk about what you are reading.
At the bottom of each post is a comment button. You and your child are more than welcome to use this comment button to communicate with me, post learning you do in response to the online lessons or even to say hello. Alternatively if you complete these online tasks you can send pictures to my email.
To comment on the blog:
Any questions or concerns you have please let me know so we can work through this new online journey together.
Keep safe. Kind regards
Billie

Wash your hands
In Ruma Pukeko this week we learnt about the importance of washing our hands! We did several activities to illustrate this point.
Activity 1:
Activity 2:
Part 1: We put our hands in the bowl and they became covered in 'germs'.
Part 2 We washed our hands in the warm water with soap and the 'germs' didn't stick to us!
We then made some posters to show what we had learnt.

Tricky words
Kia ora,
This week in Ruma Pukeko we have been learning about words that we can't sound out. These words are a bit tricky! We have been learning them by writing them on whiteboards and by singing the tricky word song. Here are some photos of children writing these words.

Welcome
Kia Ora,
Welcome to a new year in Ruma Pukeko! Whaea Billie is excited to be teaching at Hokitika Primary School. We have already had a fantastic start to the year doing a lot of collaborative artwork. Some reminders and notices:
Books:
Children will change their books from the browsing box each day. They will also bring home an additional book each Thursday which they have been reading throughout the week and will be eager to share with you at home. It is strongly encouraged to read to your child as much as possible as this supports them in learning new words which helps with their oral language, reading and writing.
Homework:
Each Friday children will be given homework. They will have till the following week to complete their homework. They are currently receiving a list of 5-7 spelling words each week to learn. From week 7 they will also be given some maths homework as well to be completed and returned by each Friday.
Swimming:
Ruma Pukeko will be swimming Monday- Thursday 11:15- 11:50
If you have any questions/concerns make sure to let me know so we can work together to sort them out!
